Fly box features
The construction of our fly boxes starts with hand-picked native Vermont hardwood chosen for its color and grain structure. The rough cut lumber is vacuum kiln-dried to 6% moisture (for greatest stability) then planed and cut to size where the routing and finishing process begins.
The blanks are made on a state-of-the-art Italian CNC routing machine for the best precision and uniformity and then assembled, finish sanded, oiled, and finally laser engraved.
- Weight: 4 ounces
- Dimensions: 5 inches tall x 3 1/2 inches wide x 1 1/4 inches deep
- Finish: natural rubbed oil
Two very small, but strong Rare Earth Neodymium magnets are recessed into each side of the fly box to hold it closed with just the right amount of force.
After extensive searching and experimentation we’ve chosen a solid brass, rust-resistant cylinder hinge that is completely hidden when the box is closed.
Foam inserts are made from the highest grade closed cell foam available and sourced from a New England company. They are heat-molded into ¼” ripple foam for the right side and flat for the left. They will last for years but are replaceable.
The fly box arrived yesterday and my husband was definitely surprised. He loves it and went so far as to say that two of his friends will be jealous! We’ll have to point them in your direction.
Hi Dave, I just wanted to write and thank you for the fly box I ordered the other day. It's a 60th birthday present for my dad, and I was so pleased when it arrived in such good time. It's beautiful, and beautifully made, and I'm excited to be able to give it to him.
Just thought I would drop you a note to tell you how much I appreciate the thought and craftsmanship that your put into your product. I received one of your boxes a few years ago and it quickly went into my vest where it has become my go-to fly box. It has survived the test of time and its durability is amazing--it continues to be a cherished part of my fishing ritual. The box itself receives compliments from those around me and I'm glad to carry a little piece of VT with me across the country. The box itself has withstood whole body swims, rock impacts, and the rough handling of a young boy fascinated by the mystery of its contents. And, unlike me, seems to age gracefully with character and dependability. Thanks, man. You do a great job.
Vermont Fly Box Company did an excellent job with my father's Christmas present, and delivered a top notch product. I worked in a custom furniture shop for a few years, and since then I have never been happy with any wood working, cabinet work, or moldings I see. You guys did great work and even made me happy.
Just wanted to say thank you for this order. I received it today and I am blown away by the craftsmanship. This will make a terrific Christmas gift for my brother-in-law... only trouble is now I want one!! Good thing I have a birthday in March... I will certainly send your company info on to my wife! Thanks again.
